Psychiatrists Abusing Patients In Turkish Psychiatric Hospitals

In a description that sounded more like a dungeon torture chamber this article covers the horrific abuse of patients in psychiatric hospitals in Turkey. The story also quoted a report investigating these human rights violations. The report included such comments as:

“Investigators observed children emaciated from starvation,” and “Staff reported children dying from starvation and dehydration.”

Patients are “subjected to treatment practices that are tantamount to torture,”

The group said electric shock therapy were “massively overused in Turkish psychiatric facilities in cases for which there is no clinically proven justification,” and that they were used as a form of punishment.

“(Electric shock) without the use of anesthesia and muscle relaxants violates all internationally accepted medical standards,” the report said.

The head of this psychiatric hospital is quoted as stating that 40-60 patients undergo electric shock treatment every day. He is also quoted as saying:

“(Electric shock) is harmless, it is even safer to give (it) to a pregnant woman with depression than medication,”

The report on these human rights violations concluded with: “As the European Union meets to consider Turkey’s human rights record … we ask them to demand action by the government of Turkey to end these human rights violations,”.

One common misconception is that treatment like this is isolated to a few psychiatric hospitals in third world countries. That could not be further from the truth. Barbaric treatments like electric shock are used in the United States on as many as 100,000 patients every year.

Electric shock is a violent brain damaging treatment. Such a high amount of electricity is used that muscles spasms and convulsions can actually cause physical damage to the patient. That is why psychiatrists give the person being shocked a heavy dose of muscle relaxants and anesthesia. Many patients complain of long term memory loss. I’ve even heard of cases where they lose all memories of their own families.

It’s time to stop the brutal therapy of electric shock treatment once and for all. It doesn’t matter if it’s in Turkey or California, this should never happen to anyone.

ADHD Drug Strattera Causes Suicidal Thoughts In Children

The drug manufacturer Eli Lilly is admitting today that their drug Strattera prescribed to treat ADHD and hyperactivity causes children to have suicidal thoughts. This is after the FDA requested that Eli Lilly provide the data that they apparently had not disclosed showing the link between suicide and this ADHD drug. After reviewing this information the FDA seems to have requested that Strattera carry a warning on it’s label.

Based on the information that Lilly provided on Strattera the statistics are staggering. If you take the total number of children being treated for ADHD and hyperactivity with drugs like these (over 5 million kids) you get some frightening numbers. Assuming that similar drugs have the same side effects there are tens of thousands of kids experiencing suicidal thoughts from these drugs. Statistically using the same figures thatEli Lilly provided in their press release you get these numbers:

20,000 children have been having suicidal thoughts as a direct side effects of their medication. The most horrific number is the nearly 4,000 children who have likely acted on these thoughts and attempted suicide. Who knows how many of the 4,000 were successful.

This is an enormous amount of damage. Think of the preschoolers who are on this drug. Imagine a poor 6 year old child experiencing suicidal thoughts. Now imagine 20,000 of them! it’s almost too terrible to believe.

Facts like these are everywhere when it comes to psychiatric drugs and treatments. All you need to do is look in the news and go beyond the psychiatric drug companies propaganda. The facts are there to be seen. Their treatments cause suicide and psychosis as direct side effects. The amount of damage they are inflicting on society and our children is immeasurable. It’s time that psychiatry and the drug companies pay for this damage and are stopped from harming our kids once and for all.

Tom Cruise Is Right About Child Psychiatric Drugs

I recently read an article in the LA Times about Tom Cruise and his fight against psychiatry. The article points out the truth behind his message against psychiatry’s drugging of children and the fact that two other major celebrities are self acknowledged victims of psychiatry’s betrayal of children. The article says: “WHEN TOM CRUISE and his fellow Scientologists took a hammering earlier this year for their public opposition to psychiatric drugs, neither they nor their critics could have anticipated the releases in July and August of two weighty reports offering evidence that at least some psychiatric prescription-writing has run amok.”

The article goes on to say:

“If these two reports by Columbia University’s National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse, or CASA, have it right, more kids than ever have their fingers — and sometimes their noses — in somebody else’s psychiatric prescription pill bottle.”

In this article the author of the reports on child prescription drug abuse is quoted as saying “Particularly alarming is the 212% increase from 1992 to 2003 in the number of 12- to 17-year-olds abusing controlled prescription drugs, and the number of teens trying these drugs for the first time.”

“The explosion in the prescription of addictive opioids, depressants and stimulants has, for many children, made the medicine cabinet a greater temptation and threat than the illegal street drug dealer, as some parents have become unwitting and passive pushers.”

The damage done to children is twofold: One - these drugs themselves have strong and damaging side effects and Two - The abuse of these drugs is also just as damaging as abusing any street drug.

Two music supstars are prime examples of the child drugging phenomenon:

Kurt Cobain was prescribed Ritalin at the age of 7. He believed that the drug led to his later abuse of illegal street drugs. He then committed suicide with a shotgun in 1994. Cobain’s widow, Courtney Love, is quoted as describing it this way: “Kurt’s own opinion, as he later told her, was that the drug was significant. Courtney, who also was prescribed Ritalin as a child, said: ‘When you’re a kid and you get this drug that makes you feel that [euphoric] feeling, where else are you going to turn when you’re an adult?’ ”

Rap phenomenon Eminem, is another prominent victim of the label-and-medicate technique used by psychiatry. Rolling Stone reported that he was misdiagnosed with attention deficit disorder by his mother. He was then drugged with Ritalin.

As the LA Times says: “It seems almost too perverse to be true: Cobain’s and Eminem’s fans might get a stronger anti-stimulant message from their icons’ examples than from their own parents, teachers and doctors.”

Schizophrenia Anti Psychotic Drugs Are A Failure

It seems psychiatry and the big drug companies had a problem when it came to anti psychotic drugs. These are the same drugs that they use to dope up people who have been labeled with schizophrenia. These drugs have strong side effects and the patients stop taking the drugs because they cannot stand these side-effects.

So what was their solution?

I imagine the big meeting over at the pharmaceutical / psychiatric think tank went something like this:

“Our drugs don’t really work well and cause horrible side effects - so lets make more drugs just like them that cost 10 times as much money to produce and then pump out a huge false public relations and marketing campaign to convince everyone they work better and are side effect free.”

Well that’s what exactly what it appears they did. Because now a new study shows that these drugs were a fraud and despite their 10X increase in cost - they work no better and have all the same side effects. Further, the study found that more than 74 percent of the people prescribed one of these anti psychotics stopped taking it because they couldn’t handle the side effects.

But the lovely psychiatric drug lobby has a wonderful way to spin this new data. They’ve put out a press release with this real intelligent jump in logic:

“Our drugs don’t work well and cause nasty side effects. In fact, they are so bad that 3 out of 4 people who take them can’t even stay on them. So our logical conclusion is that the patients need to take more of the same drugs and in a bigger variety - of course!”

What else would you expect? Psychiatry and pharmaceutical companies have one goal: Profit. Their actions show this time and time again. Treating schizophrenia with drugs is a $10 Billion dollar a year business. YES - that’s $10 billion dollars!

The media seems to have bought their marketing and public relations campaign hook, line & sinker.

I think the public is smarter than this and will eventually see through all the psychiatric propaganda. Given the right information about exactly what these drugs do to schizophrenics - I don’t think anyone would take them. But, that’s the problem, the truth about psychiatric drugs is often hidden. The drug companies have even been alleged to have hidden vital information on horrible side effects like suicide because they were worried this might effect their approval and sales.

If you read between the lines in most media reports you can see the true information.

The Washington Post said:

“Every drug, old and new, caused serious side effects, and the vast majority of patients stopped taking each of them.”

The article also goes on to say:

“Expensive new anti psychotic drugs that are among the most widely prescribed pills in medicine are no more effective and no safer than an older, cheaper drug that has been largely discontinued, according to the most comprehensive comparative study ever conducted…underscores the extent to which physicians, patients and policymakers can be blindsided by self-interested research by drug makers.”

The Boston Globe says:

“Nearly three-quarters of the patients in the study stopped taking their assigned schizophrenia drugs before the 18-month study was finished, mainly because the medications didn’t improve their condition enough or they couldn’t stand side effects ranging from weight gain to nervous tics.”

If it weren’t for the fact that real people are being damaged by these drugs, it would make for a good comedy to know what in the study results was the big success for psychiatrists. In the study theAmerican Psychiatric Association was happy with the results because:

“After 18 months, 36 percent of the Zyprexa patients were still taking their drug compared with 26 percent of those on Risperdal, 25 percent of those on the older drug, Trilafon, 21 percent of patients taking Geodon, and 18 percent of the patients on Seroquel.”

So more than 2/3’s of the patients stopped taking their drugs because they didn’t work or the side effects were intolerable - what a big success!

Prozac Suicide Dangers Hidden - Charges Harvard Psychiatrist

I was recently revisiting the story about how the manufacturer of the drug Prozac, Eli Lilly, seemed to magically “misplace” important information showing the strong link between taking antidepressants and suicide. Apparently there were many drug trials that showed this long before the drug was ever approved and sold to the public.

In looking this over it really struck me that magnitude of this act. I did some quick math and it seems that hundreds of thousands of patients are probably dead today because of these suicidal side effects that were buried and hidden from the public. Millions more have likely suffered from thoughts of suicide or unsuccessful acts of suicide. Most of them probably will never know this was cause by the drugs they were taking.

I have a feeling that had this information been readily available to the FDA drugs like Prozac, Paxil and Zoloft would have never been approved in the first place.

A great place to see some of this information is in a news article that was published in USA Today. In the article the claim was made that “Eli Lilly & Co. officials lied 15 years ago in denying there was any evidence theanti-depressant Prozac could cause suicidal behavior

Then in a press release I found online it gave a much more starling view:

Eli Lilly treated the American public “like guinea pigs” says Harvard psychiatrist Martin Teicher. He goes on to explain how Eli Lilly was engaged in widespread scientific fraud in the cherry picking of individuals for drug trial results. Basically, if anyone in the drug trial began to show suicidal behavior, they were “excused” from the trial and removed from the outcome data.

None of this is any surprise to readers of this website, of course. I went public with accusations about the suicide risk of of antidepressant drugs in 1999. At that time it was widely ridiculed and called a “conspiracy theory.” Now, once again, it is emerging as scientific fact. There are so many murder/suicides linked to Prozac and other SSRI drugs that the public would be absolutely shocked to learn the true details of how many people have been killed by these drugs. Remember Phil Hartman, the comedian? He was killed by his wife who was also on these drugs. And let’s not forget the Colombine massacre, in which both teenage boys who blew away their classmates were on antidepressants.

What amazes me the most about all this is how drug companies manage to cover up these facts and suppress negative evidence for so long. After all, these missing Prozac documents are from a trial in 1994! That’s a good ten years of suppression during which billions of dollars worth of these drugs have been peddled to patients by drug-pushing doctors.

Of course, Eli Lilly denies everything. All their drugs are perfectly safe, they have nothing to hide, and their only mission is to serve the good of mankind… to hear it from them, anyway.

I wonder how the parents of the Colombine children feel about all this?
